The RCM Analyst

With the publication of the RCM standard, SAE JA1011, the world finally has an internationally recognised definition of what is, and what is not, able to be called Reliability-centered Maintenance.

However the standard did not go far enough in some areas, one of these is in the area of measurement and monitoring of the RCM effort. The other is in the area of implementation.

Since the late 1990's it has become clear that the default method for implementing RCM, team facilitated analyses, has become far too resource intensive. Particularly when combined with the parallel drive to reduce numbers all the time. Many companies are physically not able to implement RCM in this fashion even though they recognise and want the benefits that the method can provide.

I have attached a brief article called "The Age of The RCM Analyst" which deals with this issue. Specifically it explains a method that we have pioneered here in the UK, which is quickly becoming recognised as the way that RCM can remain as a central pillar for the asset management community.
