Reliability centered Maintenance and EAM

Today one of my articles was published on reliabilityweb.com. RCM and EAM is a look at the problems created with EAM and ERP systems that are implemented with a focus on capturing failure data in order to design better maintenance policies.

This is a theme that I think is very timely as well as being very important for companies that manage physical assets. As the managerial discipline is gaining prominence, IT projects dominate the horizon as the standard "silver bullet" for fixing all problems.

However if IT systems are implemented without the supporting knowledge and skills implementations in advanced asset management thinking, then the likelihood of success, or of permanence of any short term benefits is limited.

At best there will be the capture of failure data (at a cost to the company) along with limited improvements in efficiency. At worst the company will get very efficient at doing the wrong work!

Enjoy the article...
