Asset infrastructure charity organization

It is not often that I am able to write here about much outside of the world of managing physical assets, which is great. I, like most of you reading this, have the distinct benefit of enjoying what I do and enjoying watching our work lead to improved productivity and performance.

However, I would like to take a moment to discuss a charity that myself and my wife have been supporting for several years. WaterAid is an international charity dedicated to helping people escape the stranglehold of poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation.

Not sexy, but fundamental to making the world a better place for millions and millions of people around the world. Over 1 billion people in the world lack access to clean water, a further 2.7 billion still lack sanitation facilities. Depressing statistics, and an incredible barrier to improved health, wealth, and progress within the developing world.

Over the last five years water aid has helped reach 750,000 people who did not previously have access to clean water.

I have lived and worked in over twenty countries now. In that time I have seen the effects of living without access to clean water and without sanitation. I recall trying to convince a colleague from Mexico that if he drank the water int he UK he probably wouldn't die from it. it took me three months to convince him!

As causes go, this one is fundamental I believe. Not something that attracts a lot of attention, and not something that draws a lot of funding. But without adequate infrastructure, no amount of drugs, grain, housing or education is going to sustainably change these communities around the world.

Their site is www.wateraid.co.uk. I hope you will at least check out their site and have a look at what they are trying to do in the world.
