Book review: Asset Maintenance Management

Asset Maintenance Management by Dr Alan Wilson is one of the better texts I have read on asset maintenance management in a long time. Check it out on Amazon Here.

Using Dr Wilsons deep knowledge of asset intensive industries he has put together a weighty 800 page book that is a great reference of information for most issues that asset managers are likely to come accross. As a leading player in the industry, an ex-head of WSATKINS asset management areas, Dr Wilson has also been able to include sections from such thought leaders as Moubray and Idhammer, adding to the overall value of this text.

The onlything that I found difficult with this book is that it was trying to provide a little information on everything, and a lot of information on only some things. As such there are sections, written by different authors, that are in conflict, and there are some sections that are decidedly "light". (Such as the RCM section)

However, Dr Wilson more than makes up for this with his information on areas such as outsourcing, performance measurement and productivity measurement among others.

All in all I fully recommend this text as a good book to have nearby for asset managers, consultants, and for maintainers generally.

As a side issue, this is a list I put togetehr a while ago regarding asset intensive industries. I fully recommend all of the books in this list and some of them will be the subjet of future reviews on this blog. Amazon List: Books for improving performance of asset-centric organizations
